Our Copperheads went back to Martha Rivers Park in Gastonia this weekend to play in the 15-team USSSA Fall State Championship.  This was a very strong field with some of the best teams from all over the state playing for the title of State Champion.  Our first game would be against the Carolina Wildcats Baseball team from Weddington.  A close game throughout, our boys battled the entire game to win this one 8-7.  Our second pool play game against the Carolina Blast from Charlotte was a similar matchup with both teams displaying tremendous defense.  The Copperheads wanted it more in this matchup and we walked away with a 4-2 victory that would send us into the Sunday championship round as the #3 seed.  Our road to the championship on Sunday would start with the Thunder Dawgs from High Point.  This was again a tremendous game where both teams gave it their absolute best and we came out on top 6-5.  This would take us to a semi-final game against the Scorpions from Charlotte.  A 1-2-3 inning against their lead-off batters followed up by our 4-run first inning set the tone for the entire game as we marched on past this opponent 6-5.  The boys were fired up as they entered their 3rd championship game in a row.  This time the opponent would be the Carolina Sundevils from Hickory.  Iggy took control from the hill, throwing 4 fantastic innings.  Zippy pitched a strong 5th inning and Iceman closed it out all backed up by the errorless Copperhead defense for the 11-3 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN!!

This was yet another spectacular weekend of Copperhead baseball for all of the players, coaches and families as we enjoyed seeing our team do so well.
