Although players are just finding there way back onto college campuses around the nation, their coaches are already hard at work getting them placed for the 2008 summer season. They understand how important summer baseball is to the development of their players. This year, it didn't take long for the Copperheads phones to start ringing. As of September 6th, the Copperheads already have 20 committments for the upcoming summer including four returning SCBL allstars. Last summer didn't turn out quite like the Copperheads had hoped for in terms of wins and loses, so its exciting to once again be looking forward. Over the next few weeks, we will be featuring the players signed on the Davidson Copperheads homepage.
This years signings kicked off by signing a pair from Virginia Tech. Anthony and Buddy Sosnoskie. Anthony is a sophomore catcher. Last season at Virginia Tech he started in over 30 games while hitting .292 with three homeruns. In ACC play, he hit .313 with one homerun. In 37 games, Sosnoskie only allowed two passed balls. Last summer, Sosnoskie was a member of the Gastonia Grizzles of the Coastal Plains League. There he started in 42 games and hit .250 with six homeruns.
Buddy Sosnoskie (FR) is a two-way guy (LHP/OF/1B). From the mound, Buddy is 87-90 with a plus change-up. He will be spending the fall and spring working to develop a better breaking ball. He will also bring some speed and pop to the Copperheads lineup this summer.
In the following days, we will be featuring more of the Copperheads signings for the 2008 summer. Once again, we will be looking for host families and sponsorships this summer. If you are interested, please contact Derek Shoe at dshoe@copperheadsports.org or by phone at 704-305-3649.
